Algore Does Not Deserve Nobel Prize
Originally posted on October 12, 2007. ^.^ "Algore" has proven that the Liberalistas who hand out the Nobel Prizes in Sweden have proven themselves to be the laughingstock. The former vice president was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this morning. He will share the prize with the UN's scientific commission that works on issues related to global warmin. The problem is that Algore does not deserve the Nobel Prize. Theoretically, the Nobel Prize is supposed to be given to the person or people who most advanced the cause of world peace, yet in the past, the prize has been given to terrorist leaders (Arafat), the leaders of tyrannical dictatorships (Gorbachev), and a woman who won the award for planting trees in Africa. In the case of Algore, we have a person who won the Nobel Prize largely because of a movie he did about himself giving a lecture on the supposed effects of "man-made" global warming. "An Inconvenient Truth" is a good name for the Algore movie, because the truth is so inconvenient for him. The Algore movie has been shown in schools both in the United States and in other places, yet in the United Kingdom, a Judge has stated that if the film is to be shown, teachers also need to cite the nine glaring mistakes that Algore made in the film: (My own comments are in bold) 1): The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct. The real culprit here is local factors, including deforestation. 2): The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years. 3): The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming. The film also ignores the fact that hurricane seasons since 2005 have been very quiet...if Algore is correct, we should be having nothing but Cat 5s one right after the other. 4): The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case. Man might be the cause of the drying of the lake, but it was not due to global warming...it might be due to development in the area. The same thing happened to the Aral Sea, in the former USSR. 5): The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm. Four bears proves global warming? And has Algore retracted his flawed information? 6): The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility. Algore doesn't know that the Gulf Stream fluctuates normally 7): The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim. 8): The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration. So, it will be 300 years before ocean levels rise 1 meter, if I have my math correct...I am sure we can survive... 9): The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim. Added to this is the spate of hypocritical acts that Algore has done that contradict his supposed concern for the environment, such as using a persoanl jet to get from place to place. Now, while people need jets to get from place to place, the problem with Algore's jaunts is that he uses a model of personal jet that dumps a particularly large amount of CO2 into the atmosphere. Beofre Algore lectures the rest of us on cleaning up the environment, perhaps he should practice what he preaches. John B.
