Sheehan & The Peaceniks Meet the Dictionary
Originally posted on January 30, 2006. ^.^ Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines the word "idiot" as "an ignorant or stupid person." Using that definition, I can safely say that Cindy Sheehan is an idiot. And she's an idiot on so many levels. Take one of her rants in the wake of Hurricane Katrina... "I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I don't care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way America will become more secure is if we have a new administration that cares about Americans even if they don't fall into the top two percent of the wealthiest." Excuse me...OCCUPIED New Orleans? Hmm, last time I looked, thereis no way for the US Army to "occupy" New Orleans in the manner Sheehan means, which is as an imperialist force. Here she is trying to compare the mission in Iraq with that in New Orleans following the hurricane, when the differences between the two are immense. On top of that, Sheehan does a tremendous dis-service to the men and women of the US armed forces by making these sorts of comments.I would like to point out to Ms. Sheehan and the rest of the peaceniks that the US armed forces have not only performed admirably in both the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, but they have performed vital civil support missions in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, and in the aftermaths of both Hurricane Katrina and Rita. The dictionary defines an "army" as an organized group of people, who are armed and trained to fight wars. In today's world, an army can also be used to assist the civil authorities and to help with constructing shelters, distributing food and water, and seeing to the needs of the injured. Yet Sheehan sees the US Army's actions in New Orleans as those of an occupier. I will stay away from one of my complaints about Ms. Sheehan for the most part...that she did not know that given the definition of what an army is, that she did not consider the fact that her son might die while serving in one. It's not as rare an idea as you might think...this idea of getting into the national guard for the educational benefits. The problem with that logic is that it leaves out the "payment" that the country is going to expect for those "goodies" that a recruit might get later. Let me be crystal clear on this. Cindy Sheehan is a citizen of the United States, and as such, she has the right to spew whatever hateful gray wrinkled elephant dung she wants, for the most part. She can protest and have marches in Washington, and camp out in ditches, for the most part, and her duped supporters can worship the ground she walks on and sing her praises until the cows come home. But, just as there is no right to privacy in the US Constitution, there is no right to an audience. Although Sheehan's antics scream for attention, there is nothing saying that such attention need be paid. I am all for Cindy Sheehan speaking out, even if it is stupidly. As Rush Limbaugh says, the best thing to do when you see or hear stupidity is to get out of the way. When Cindy Sheehan was camped out near the President's ranch, while she was playing up the role of the shattered mother, the grieving victim of the "Bush war", she was the darling of the left-wing media. Since then, her antics have disabused her of even those friends. The following is an excerpt from the AP, from a story that ran on January 24, 2006: "Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez. "I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling," said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush's ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week. Sheehan was among more than 10,000 people from across the Americas who took to the streets of the Venezuelan capital Tuesday in an anti-war protest that launched the six-day Caracas World Social Forum (WSF). My government should not meddle anywhere, the "peace mom" told AFP during the march, which was marked by anti-Bush slogans." The last sentence of the AP story asys that Sheehan stated that Venezuela's foreign ministry sponsored her trip to the World Social Forum. There is a word that defines speeches and actions taken outside the borders of the United States which seek to undermine this nation's armed forces while they are engaged in the war against Terror, the continued hunt for Osama bin Laden, and the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan... Treason. Quite frankly, if Cindy Sheehan feels such a compelling need to go to the home country of a socialist thug who openly supports injuring the United States, then perhaps she should check out the real estate market in Caracas, and consider staying there on a permanent basis. Venezuela can have her.
